Today’s flashback takes us to 1935, when Beckley Motor Company presented the "smartest cars of 1936."

"Priced as much as $300 lower."

In 1936, Studebaker released their President and Dictator car lines. And they could be found locally at Beckley Motor Company, operating at 130 Neville Street.

For $665, buyers could drive away in a sleek new Studebaker featuring:
  • 16 new beauty features
  • 34 new comfort features
  • 14 new economy features
  • 21 new performance features
  • 12 new safety features

From streamlined bodies to improved performance and better gas mileage, Studebaker positioned itself as the standout value of all 1936 cars.

This ad in the Raleigh Register emphasized impressively large and roomy cars, the "finest car of its type that ever bore the Studebaker name". They offered the greatest combination of luxury and "scientifically cradled locomotion." All in all, these new lines boasted all of 97 advancements not to be found in any other car.

Beckley Motor Company invited all to come and ride in it, drive it, and to price it. The Dictator Six starting at $665 and the President Eight starting at $965.

"Smart to be seen in...smarter to buy."

Did you know? Studebaker was an American vehicle manufacturer that began in 1852 building horse-drawn wagons before becoming one of the world's largest vehicle houses.
